MORE DETAIL - A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION

HOW SECUREDBACKUP WORKS

We install and configure the software on your machine. From there it is automated and keeps track of the date, time and type of the next backup. It "hides" on the System Tray without interfering with any other program.

At the predetermined time it "wakes up" and finds which files need backing up, and what kind of backup (out of three possibilities) is scheduled for that session. It then compresses those files into archives that can in many cases be only 5% to 15% of the original file sizes.

These archives are then encrypted using your personal encryption key. SecuredBackup then activates your Internet connection. It contacts our DataStore and sends your backup.

The backup is verified for integrity before sending and whilst being sent, then finally after it reaches our DataStore. This ensures that the copy of the backup that we have exactly matches your copy.

After the backup is sent and verified, your machine returns to Idling state. You can of course alter the "predetermined times" or do Ad Hoc backups whenever you wish.

RESTORING YOUR DATA

You restore your data using an easy to understand menu. You simply pick the RESTORE option, tag the files you want to restore, and the software restores your files.

You can see a list of all the files available for restoring. This listing is sorted by Backup Set Name and Backup Date. The file listing usually contains several versions of the same files. This is part of the exclusive Version Control system built into SecuredBackup. This system lets you restore any version of your files - not just the latest version.

You can select files and sets of files by tagging and un-tagging files individually or in groups. The File Finder feature of SecuredBackup is extremely powerful. With a single selection you can select (as examples) the latest version of all files; only a particular subdirectory; a single drive letter or files whose names match a certain criteria. Files can be untagged the same way.

So, you can come up with virtually any set of files you want to restore by using combinations of any or all tagging options. When the files to be restored are all tagged, SecuredBackup restores them. You have the option of putting files back where they came from, or placing them somewhere else.

WHERE ARE YOU

Our primary DataStore is in the UK just outside Oxford (which we believe to be the heart of the universe).

It does not matter if it is not in your country, this web site is not in your country or even the same country as our DataStore.

In these matters Distance = Safety.

It has two independent internet connections with no shared hardware until they enter our firewall/router, this enables automatic switch over if a connection should fail.

We keep three separate copies of your data on standalone equipment. Two are "live" and one off site (we back up your back ups).

Having multiple sites and a "live location move" facility, our systems are such that the DataStore could be moved without you even noticing a pause in the service.
